Deutsche Bank takes honours in IT awards

Deutsche Bank has been named “IT department of the year” and has received an award for “Best back office project” in the hotly-contested Financial News Trading & Technology Awards 2008.

The "IT department of the year" award was presented to the Bank for its work in integrating the norisbank IT systems into the Deutsche Bank IT platforms.

In announcing the award, the Financial News reported that Deutsche Bank had successfully migrated norisbank’s products and customers onto its own IT systems, leveraging economies of scale and being able to switch off all previous norisbank IT systems. The project was carried out within a timeframe of just over 12 months, involving up to 250 employees from the IT, PBC business and norisbank areas.

Joerg Benischke, Head of Private & Business Clients IT Professional Services Unit, told the newspaper that: "... the close cooperation between IT and the business areas over the whole project lifecycle - working together in joint teams - was the key success factor for the project delivery." He added: "... for us the award clearly is a joint business-IT achievement, recognising the excellent working together of all involved groups in Deutsche Bank."

Meanwhile, in the "Best back office project" category, Deutsche Bank’s IBIT team was honoured for its OPAL (Operations Portal) programme. OPAL visualises and presents key management data and performance indicators across Client, Control, Cost, Capacity and Completeness for IBO. The platform has been rolled out globally to over 1,800 Operations and TMG users worldwide.

Mitch Danzig, COO IBO & Global Head TMG, was delighted with the award and said: "There is a thirst for knowledge at Deutsche Bank which is great to know and there is a need to have something in place to quench that thirst, especially in the current market.”

Sarah Berwick, Head of GM Debt Operations IT, added: "OPAL leverages the huge amount of intellectual capital which exists in our current processes and, in some cases, our systems. We have utilised strategic technology and the phenomenal collaboration between IBO and IBIT to launch OPAL."
