Under the title “The Circle Walked Casually,” the Deutsche Bank KunstHalle is presenting works from the Deutsche Bank Collection for the first time since the collection was established. From November 28, 2013, to March 2, 2014, 132 works by 50 artists from the bank’s own collection are on view.
Classic Modernist artworks by Joseph Albers, Hans Arp, Max Beckmann, Otto Dix, Vassily Kandinsky, Käthe Kollwitz, Oskar Schlemmer, and Kurt Schwitters are on exhibit, as are works by important postwar artists such as Georg Baselitz, Louise Bourgeois, John Cage, Joseph Beuys, Lucian Freud, and Richard Buckminster Fuller.
The exhibition is curated by Victoria Noorthoorn, Director of the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires and a member of the Deutsche Bank Global Art Advisory Council. It is the first show of a new series. In the future, renowned international guest curators will regularly develop exhibitions in the KunstHalle featuring works from the Deutsche Bank Collection.
In her selection, the Argentinian curator concentrates on drawings and prints. Together with the Brazilian exhibition architect Daniela Thomas, she has developed an innovative form of presentation: a seemingly boundless open space in which the works appear to be suspended in air.
At the center of the show are contemporary artists from across the globe, including Erick Beltrán, Marina De Caro, Marlene Dumas, Jiří Kolář, David Koloane, Laura Lima, Anna Maria Maiolino, Gerhard Richter, Kara Walker, and Jakub Julian Ziółkowski.
Victoria Noorthoorn not only shows a variety of masterpieces and rediscovered works in the Deutsche Bank Collection. She also fosters dialogue between the works, particularly with regard to space and line, the two key features of drawing. Thanks to the architecture, the viewer can follow this dialogue through the space in a serpentine line.
A bilingual exhibition catalogue of the same name was designed by the Mexican artist Erick Beltrán. For details on the comprehensive accompanying program, please visit deutsche-bank-kunsthalle.com
